About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

This session will explore the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition. The European Climate Act commits the EU to achieving CO2 neutrality by 2050, with Belgium required to cut emissions by 55% by 2030. The energy transition is underway, but it is progressing too slowly to meet the objectives on time. To succeed, infrastructure needs to be developed, according to a memorandum by Flux50, a key facilitator for innovative energy projects in Flanders.

Flux50’s memorandum, "Energy Transition: A Gear Higher," is a constructive proposal for a realistic acceleration, based on practical experiences from its innovation initiatives. It presents three concrete thematic proposals – system integration, renovation, and energy communities & energy-positive neighborhoods – each with a situation analysis, an approach, and the expected impact.

Frederik Loeckx is Managing Director of Flux50. Flux50 is the membership organization that helps Flanders gain international recognition as a Smart Energy Region. Flux50 facilitates cross-sector collaboration between energy, IT and building companies to enhance the competitiveness of the Flemish smart energy industry in the transition towards low carbon systems.
