World No Tobacco Day Cleanup - Bin Your Butts Leuven
Date: Sat May 31 2025
Time: 14:00
Location: Belle-Vue
Hey everyone!
Join us for the World No Tobacco Day Cleanup in Leuven.
Let’s come together as a community to clean up our streets and properly dispose of cigarette butts — the most common plastic litter in the world. It’s a small action, but together we can make a big difference for our city and our planet.
Bring your friends, family, or just yourself. Everyone is welcome.
Let’s make Leuven cleaner, healthier, and more tobacco-free — for current and future generations!
Who We Are
This event is organised by Bin Your Butts Leuven — a volunteer-based organisation of kind people from Leuven who care deeply about the environment, animals, and public health.
We are not a company or a professional service — just citizens doing what we can, with love and commitment to this city.
💚 Why Join?
- For adults and students: A simple, peaceful way to give back to the city, meet like-minded people, and help the environment.
- For children: A powerful hands-on learning moment — to connect the dots between smoking, health, and pollution. This experience might help them never pick up the habit.
How It Works
- We meet at Park Belle-Vue at 14:00 (near the sandpit).
- From there, we walk slowly towards the train station, picking up litter.
- Arriving later? No problem — look for us between the park and the train station.
- Stay for 10 minutes or two hours — it all helps.
🧤 What to Bring
- We provide pickers, buckets, and bags.
- Please bring your own gloves if possible.
- Dress for light walking and outdoor activity.
Families & Children
Children aged 8 and above are especially encouraged to join.
Younger children are welcome too, with close parental supervision.
Please note:
This event is self-organised and volunteer-led. Parents remain fully responsible for their children. No childcare or catering is provided.
Bonus: Make It Educational
Looking to deepen the learning for your child?
Check out our children’s book:
Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet (ages 7–11)
This illustrated book introduces smoking, vaping, and environmental pollution in a kid-friendly, engaging way — to help build healthy habits early on.
📖 View the book on Amazon or buy it directly from Plant Dragon Leuven.
🌍 Our Values
Bin Your Butts Leuven advocates for a future free of tobacco, cigarettes, and vapes.
We raise awareness around both environmental and health harms.
We are completely independent and have no ties to the tobacco industry.
We clean up their mess — but we will never clean up their image.
Local Laws, Ongoing Problem
Despite Leuven's regulations forbidding littering (including cigarette butts), enforcement is limited. In 2024 alone, over 6,600 people were fined in Flanders — and 93% of cases involved cigarette litter.
Still, many people don’t see this as a real offence. This event helps change that.

We recommend our children’s book “Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet” (ages 7–11), which introduces smoking, vaping, and environmental care in a simple, engaging way. It’s a great companion to the event and helps children understand why their actions matter. Available here: https://shorturl.at/UckQZ
