WATER PEOPLE THEATER  

Water People Theater is a Latina-owned and led non-profit organization that believes in the transformative power of theater. For over two decades, we have been dedicated to producing socially-engaged bilingual and inclusive theater with and for diverse audiences. Our mission is to leverage the power of high-quality theater and educational offerings to advance social values and defend human rights. We aim to inspire multicultural audiences to become change-makers contributing to a more equitable, just, and inclusive world.

Water People Theater was created on September 21, 2001, the International Day of Peace. During these 22 years, we have premiered more than 30 theatrical productions, has produced 21 theater seasons, 5 films in defense of Human Rights, 7 campaigns for peace, and participated in 12 International Theater and Film Festivals. In 25 months of the pandemic, we created our theater Water People online programming. On our virtual stage, we presented 47 online plays live. More than 260 Latino professionals located in Chicago and other cities around the world participated. More than 9,000 spectators from the USA and different parts of the world attended our virtual theater. We have performed in Venezuela, New York, Chicago, Miami, Boston, and Mexico City. We have received 2 ACE AWARDS-NYC and 1 ALTA AWARD -Chicago.
